01 - Ultra-high-speed transmission of uncompressed 8K streaming video of "Sapporo Snow Festival 2014"

NICT performed an experiment of long-distance transmission of 8K uncompressed video streaming, as the world's first success case. The uncompressed 8K (7680'4320 pixels, 16x the resolution of HDTV) UHD live-streaming video as well as uncompressed 4K (3840'2160 pixels, 4x the resolution of HDTV) UHDvideo streaming was bi-directionaly transmitted over a 100Gbps temporary circuit for this experiment.

With anticipating network operation of multiple virtualized circuits over 100Gbps network, NICT built high precision network measurement and analysis system on this network.

By enabling uncompressed 8K/4K video streaming transmission, we are anticipating establishment of a cloud-based video production workflow using UHD streaming video, especially for geographically distant team.

The video transmission experiment are joint research of NICT and Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT) and other organizations. NICT is going to upgrade JGN-X in 2014, to handle big data such as 8K uncompressed streaming, data from field sensors or science big data.
