Status of global services development (NREN CEO forum update)

In January of 2013, nine NREN’s under the sponsorship of the Global NREN CEO forum, under took the development of a process model for consuming community and commercial Cloud services at truly Global Cloud scale – leveraging the combined and substantially similar service needs of the research higher education community to establish minimum participating requirements for cloud services to be distributed by Global NREN’s to their interested R&E institutions. The group will present on a number key areas that have been addressed including: -Federated Identity Integration - Addressing Accessibility, Security, and Data Protection requirements - Global pricing so all volume can be globally aggregated to benefit small and large insitutions. - Use of the R&E Networks for providers at multiple locations - Directing & Partnering NREN roles for each service. - Roadmap process for ongoing influence of the providers The group will show real examples of end point costs, savings, NREN revenue models and benefit to providers who participate in the program. They will also discuss how legacy procurement processes (public tender) have been updated to accommodate for the challenges of consuming in the cloud.
