BGP Path-hinting: a Proposed New Convention to Influence Routing

This is not your typical presentation on "BGP Communities": it describes a new use for BGP communities much different than their usual application, which can accomplish something otherwise not possible using routing controls available to us today, by using existing tools (BGP communities) to define a new global method to allow traffic recipients to influence the direction their traffic takes back toward them at inflection points potentially far beyond next-hop neighbors. Furthermore, it's defined in such a way as to allow the upstream network operators freedom to implement it or not.
