The funding paradox

Times are changing. Innovation budgets are under pressure and NRENs need to find new ways to create more return on investments. But without a change in current science funding models and researchers’ priority lists, most business models won’t work. In this presentation, I will illustrate this by using SURFnet’s Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) service as an example. The current BoD business model is not working. Not because there is no interest in the service, but because there is a paradox in how e-infrastructure services should be funded and where the money is actually spent on.
