Flexible Spectrum-as-a-Service

We present a new concept for infrastructure virtualization, called Spectrum-as-a-Service. This concept allows allocating flexible spectral bandwidth as virtual private capacity to dedicated customers. The bandwidth can be contiguous or fragmented, depending on the availability on given links within the network. Preferably, it makes use of flexible-WDM-grid ROADM technology, but the concept can be extended toward fixed-grid re-configurable (ROADM) technology as well. We discuss requirements for the interface between the client equipment and the network with regard to the necessary prevention of detrimental influences of rogue or malicious behavior of clients to the network.
